Tam Dao Three Peaks Challenge:

My Vietnamese friend asked me if I wanted to leave Hanoi at 06:00, hike up some epic mountains for 7 hours, none stop, hard terrain and possibly rock climbing to get up some parts – total time to contemplate this awesomeness- ZERO- YES YES! A chance to get out of the city and hike some semi rainforest terrain and see some seriously amazing scenery was a no quibble!

It takes about 2 hours to get there on a motorbike, and if you have a weekend to spare there is more than enough to do in the little town. There is a sun bear sanctuary on your way up to the top, which I heard is great and of course supporting the work they do is an excellent way to spend your day. BEAR SANCTUARY

The walk it self is not very well displayed and its certainly not sign posted like a National Trust site. However, you can pretty much see the walk as it walked into the ground and through the first (there are “signs” you are on the right path if you look for red ribbon and strategically placed plastic bottles in the trees).

The easiest option is to start at the first peak and walk up and down all three following the path. If you don’t feel like 7 hours of extreme hills and climbing through jungle, then you can start at the third peak but you have to walk up the path, to your left at the entrance (about a 10km walk), to the place where third peak routes ends- its difficult to see though if you haven’t been there before. You can also just start at the first and stop at the second or the first if you are really not too adventurous. However I think the third peak was the best.

I took some pretty amazing photos and I am sure once to see them you will want to go! 🙂
